Recipes and Templates
Building automations from scratch takes time, especially when you are new to the platform or setting up common business processes that thousands of other users already run. Recipes and the Template Library solve this by giving you professionally designed, ready-to-use workflow templates you can launch in minutes and customize to fit your exact needs.
What Recipes and Templates Do
Recipes and the Template Library provide pre-built workflow templates that cover the most common automation scenarios businesses need on day one. Each template includes triggers, actions, conditions, and wait steps following proven patterns designed by automation experts.
Common template categories:
- Lead Nurture: Multi-step sequences that warm new leads with emails and SMS messages over days or weeks
- Appointment Follow-Up: Confirmations, reminders, and post-appointment thank-you messages
- Review Requests: Automated campaigns that ask satisfied customers to leave a Google or Facebook review
- Onboarding: Welcome sequences for new clients with setup instructions and milestone check-ins
- Re-engagement: Win-back campaigns targeting contacts who have gone cold
- Pipeline Automation: Stage-based workflows that trigger actions when deals move through your pipeline
- Event Registration: Registration confirmations, reminders, and post-event follow-ups
Each template is built with best practices already baked in, including appropriate wait times between messages, conditional branching for different contact behaviors, and proper exit conditions so contacts do not get stuck in loops. Once you load a template, it becomes a fully editable workflow that you own entirely.
Key Configuration Options
Accessing the Template Library: Navigate to Automation > Workflows in your sub-account, then click Create Workflow. A modal appears with two options: start from scratch or select from the Template Library. Choose Select from Template to open the library.
Browsing and filtering: Use the Filters panel on the left side to narrow templates by category such as Lead Nurture, Onboarding, Sales, or Customer Success. Type keywords into the search bar at the top to find templates related to specific actions, industries, or outcomes. Sort by popularity to identify the most trusted options. Hover over any template card to read a quick description without opening the full preview.
Previewing a template: Click the eye icon or the template card itself to open the preview panel. Read the About this Template section for a summary of what the workflow does and when to use it. Check the Prerequisites list to see what you need in place before activating (e.g., a connected phone number, a specific pipeline, or a custom field). Examine the full trigger-and-action canvas to understand the complete logic flow, including branches, wait steps, and conditions.
Loading a template: When you are satisfied with a template, click Continue to load it into the Workflow Builder. The entire template structure, including triggers, actions, conditions, and connections, appears on your canvas ready for editing. From this point, the template behaves like any other workflow you have built, with full control to modify every element.
Power Features
Customizing triggers: Review the trigger at the top of the workflow. The template may use a generic trigger like “Form Submitted.” You need to configure it to point to your specific form, survey, calendar, or pipeline stage. Click the trigger node and update the filters to match your setup.
Updating messaging: Templates include placeholder messaging for SMS and email actions. Replace this content with your own brand voice, offers, and calls to action. Pay attention to personalization tokens like {{contact.first_name}} and make sure the custom fields they reference exist in your account.
Adjusting wait steps: Wait steps control the timing between actions. A template might use a 24-hour delay between a form submission and the first follow-up email. Adjust these timings based on your sales cycle and audience expectations. Shorter cycles work well for urgent services. Longer cycles suit high-consideration purchases.
Chaining templates together: A single template covers one part of your customer journey. For a complete automation system, chain multiple templates together. For example, a lead nurture template handles initial engagement. When the contact books an appointment, a “Remove from Workflow” action pulls them out of the nurture sequence. An appointment workflow template takes over for confirmations and reminders. After the appointment, a review request template handles reputation building. Use the Add to Workflow and Remove from Workflow actions to move contacts between these connected workflows.
Pro Tips
- Always preview before loading by spending two minutes reading the template description and examining the canvas preview. This prevents wasting time customizing a template that does not match your use case.
- Replace all placeholder content by reviewing every SMS and email action to replace placeholder text with your brand voice and specific offers.
- Check prerequisites first because some templates require a connected phone number, a specific pipeline, or custom fields. Set these up before loading the template to avoid errors.
- Test with a fresh contact after customizing a template. Publish the workflow and test it with a brand-new contact. Avoid reusing test contacts because previous workflow enrollments and tag assignments can cause unexpected behavior.
- Start with one template at a time instead of loading five templates at once. Activate one, monitor it for a week, then add the next. This makes it easier to identify issues and measure impact.
Common Questions
How do I access the Template Library?
Navigate to Automation > Workflows, click Create Workflow, and select Select from Template. The library modal opens with all available templates.
Can I create and share my own templates?
As of now, creating your own templates for the library is not supported. You can, however, duplicate any workflow you have built and share it via Snapshots with other sub-accounts or agency clients.
Are templates customizable after I load them?
Yes. Once you load a template into the editor, it becomes a fully editable workflow. You can change every trigger, action, condition, wait step, and connection.
Will loading a template overwrite my existing workflows?
No. Each template loads as a brand-new workflow. Your existing workflows remain completely untouched.
What happens if I am missing a prerequisite for a template?
The workflow will load, but specific actions may show configuration errors. For example, an SMS action requires a connected phone number. Set up the missing prerequisite, then return to the workflow and configure the affected action.
